Mexico City, 15 October 2024.- The 2024-2038 PRODESEN projects that by 2027, 25,251 MW of electricity capacity will be added in Mexico, of which 71% will come from clean sources. The program indicates that this growth must incorporate community development, environmental protection, and the reduction of energy poverty, ensuring that the sector guarantees supply while maintaining an ethical and sustainable approach.
SPIC-Zuma Energía, a renewable energy generator, was awarded the Socially Responsible Company (ESR) Distinction for its outstanding work in sustainability and social responsibility in Mexico. The recognition, granted by the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (CEMEFI), validates the company's commitment to sustainable development, environmental care, and the well-being of the communities where it operates.
Since its arrival in Mexico in 2020, SPIC-Zuma Energía has implemented actions aligned with six of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ranging from health and community wellness programs to education and climate change mitigation initiatives. Among its recent projects, the rehabilitation of educational spaces in Tamaulipas and Sonora stands out. In addition, mammograms will be provided in collaboration with the Breast Cancer Foundation (FUCAM) to contribute to breast cancer prevention.
SPIC-Zuma Energía's comprehensive plan includes health programs with over 25 prevention workshops and more than 1,000 free medical consultations offered in the communities, as well as the implementation of 58 educational and training workshops in collaboration with local institutions benefiting over 200 participants. Entrepreneurship programs have also empowered more than 150 women in rural communities.
In Reynosa, Tamaulipas, for instance, the company delivered educational materials such as backpacks, computers, and school supplies to support vulnerable students. In Jalisco, the Potrero Solar Park manages a community clinic that provides free medication and consultations. And in Chihuahua, a social investment collaboration agreement was signed with the municipality of Galeana to promote sustainability and the use of renewable energy for the benefit of the community.
Similarly, safety is a key priority for SPIC-Zuma Energía. The company has implemented rigorous HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality) policies to foster safe working conditions and minimize the environmental impact of its operations.
